APT University: Price Lists

Hello and welcome to Advancepro university. Today we’ll be concluding our series on Advancepro pricing structures with a look at our 5th level pricing, customer promotions. So advancepro has a number of pricing systems, which override each other and do not stack. The first level of pricing is retail, the second level of pricing is across the board discounts, the third level is a product-specific price per customer, the fourth level is a pricelist, and the final level is a Promotion, which is a price that has a starting and ending date.

Now these pricing levels do not stack, and each level overrides the previous levels, so if you have a product with a selling price of 20 dollars, and a customer would get an across the board or item specific discount of 10% off, that customer would get a price of 18 dollars, but then if that same customer has a customer promotion for 20% off, the customer will receive a price of 16 dollars – so for each customer that receives a 5th level price or promotion, this will dictate the final price of the product absolutely.

To set Promotions up in advancepro, go to the products tab and go to the global pricing manager

So there are two main ways to set a promotion,, the first to set it by an entire customer group and category of product, so here in the second tab, global pricing options and promotions, we can set a fixed price for the entire category, or a markup or discount rule. Markup will always price in relation to your average cost, and discount will always price in relation to your standard selling price., you can set a start and end time, and you can set a rounding rule.

Now lets say we want to set specific products not in a given category on a promotion, or we want to assign a promotion to a specific customer, we would navigate to the next tab, all pricelists.and we can choose the customer from the 5th level pricing dropdown at the bottom – here, we can easily add or remove individual items, by searching or scanning just like adding them to an order, and we can set individual rules by margin, markup, discount, or by a fixed price, in the price changes option at the bottom, we can make mass changes to rules across the entire list, and we can set Valid from and Valid to dates for the promotion on each line.

Finally, we can choose how we want to calculate our average cost by date range or by warehouse, so for example if we’re tracking our landed cost and running a promotion only for the customers from a single warehouse, we can use this tool to make sure we don’t price our products so low that we end up losing money, because shipping costs to that warehouse are higher, or because other costs have increased.

Finally, we can export this list to excel, and we can save our list.

Now if we have a customer group that has received customer pricing, or if we have applied this pricing to a single customer and want it to be applied to a whole group, we would do this from the customer group manager. Navigate to the customers tab and then visit customer groups, choose your group, and then click the gear to select a default price customer – this is one customer that has the pricing structure that you want to pass to new group members, or to all members of the group.

So then we have the two options, we can check off use Default price customer when adding a new customer, or we can check off the option to re-run pricing for all customers in this group using DPC and then click the button to re-run this groups pricing. The new customers, or the other members of this group will inherit all pricing structures from your default customer, including 2nd, 3rd,4th, and 5th level pricing,

Finally if we want to remove 5th level pricing, or any other pricing structure from a group of customers, come to your global pricing manager and back to the global pricing options and promotions tab, and at the bottom you can check off which pricing to remove from the members of the enabled group at the top, and then you can apply that removal.
